“In the spring year 2000 I initiated a project I call KING SIZE. It is a work where I embrace this subculturally globalized expression. To do this I built 20 markers. Unlike the markers you can buy at the shop, mine are big. They carry more ink — 20 centiliters — and have a broader tip — 50 millimeter.”
Adams hat das Projekt “King Size” 2004 ins Leben gerufen. “A project about Tags, DIY Craft & Subcultural Globalization”. Unterstützt wurde Adams mit Textinhalten von Craig Castleman (Getting Up), Andreas Berg (Professor für Illustration and der University College of Arts, Crafts and Design, Stockholm) und Joe Austin (Professor an der Bowling Green State Universität Bowling Green,Ohio). Herausgekommen sind sehr interessante Texte (englisch) zum Thema. Die Texte “Gotten Up”, “Graffiti is Vandalism” und “Two Tagged Stories from the USA” werden von sehr guten Photos begleitet.

“There is a special craftsmanship tradition within the graffiti movement, especially for the supply of markers reconstructions of ketchup bottles, blackboard erasers and deodorants. It’s a form of “takewhatyouget mentality” an engineering that comes out of lack in material supply and favourable conditions. I’ve always had a passion for constructing things this way; bikes, furniture and small houses. The markers aren’t built entirely out of scrap but still in a Do-It-Yourself ideal; aluminum pipes, springs, foam plastic and screws. After having constructed the markers, I’ve passed them out around the world. I’ve chosen to give them to writers that have certain individual qualities but mostly because of their notorious relationship to the activity itself. Some of them are presented in this book.”
Im Buch wird einleitend erklärt wie der Monster Marker zusammengebastelt wird, aus welchen Teilen das Ding besteht und später zum Einsatz kommt. Sehr gelungene Texte, aber soweit wir wissen leider nicht mehr erhältlich in Deutschland, weder auf Amazon noch auf Stylefile wo es seit letztem Jahr ausverkauft ist. Es wurden nur 3.000 Exemplare gedruckt. Allerdings gibts im Highlights Store Stockholm und in deren Onlineshop noch einige zu ergatttern. Wer das Buch anderswo suchen will, hier die ISBN: 91-631-5182-0. Vielleicht schwirren ja irgendwo noch einige Exemplare rum, das Ding ist auf jeden Fall jeden Cent wert.
