Mist “Melting Spot”

After “class 88” in 2008 and “Faux jumeaux” in 2010 with Tilt, French graffiti artist Mist presents “Melting Spot” at the Speerstra Gallery in Bursins, Switzerland.

Mist was born in Paris, France in 1972, and discovered graffiti in 1988 on his way to school. After studying design for 4 years, he learnerd sculpture working for a toy company. In 1998, developing his work in the toy universe, he created one of his first characters,“Debilz, made in resin and edited in 666 copies. By the year 1992, he joined the famous graffiti artists’ crew the COP (Control Of Paris) and painted many walls with them. Although fascinated by the Wild Style lettering, he developed his own style in calligraphy.

For his first exhibition at the Speerstra Gallery, Mist shows, in avant-première, a sculpture representing his name.

The exhibitionClass 88 will also present a new series of paintings in big formats revealing his typographic and colorist’s talent. TheMist style is characterized by the permanent use of big outlines and rich colors, revealing horns, devils’ tails, and griffus fingers.
Mist tells us with humor that through his creations, he permanently creates autoportraits of himself, his letters are inhabited and owned by his“devil style”. Make his letters alive and move to the beat, letting these same letters become characters.

The tradition of the graffiti character is always present in his work, the traditional b.boy is replaced by fresh demons of all kinds, reversing the Hip-Hop’s icon of his graffiti ancestors.
