The project SIMILARITIES is the story of two graffiti artists, who have been working on walls and trains all over the world for almost 30 years and who are now, for the first time, leaving the big format to embark in something new.
However this is also a project about the spontaneous collaboration of two friends, who have a long history of working together. Both artists, like many other sprayers in their generation, feel a need for more freedom and the departure from the norms and rules that are often dictated by the style writing and graffiti culture.
For artists like AtomOne and WOW123 this “departure” is an enthralling process, especially because both are not only representing a high quality form of classic graffiti, but have also majorly influenced its evolution.
After three decades in which most everything has been experienced and painted by the duo, it seems like it is time for new horizons, new ideas and concepts and more spontaneity. Fir this WOW123 and AtomOne have chosen the medium of canvas. Unlike the usual format of exterior walls and train carriages, painting on canvas restricts the size of the artwork as well as habitual expressive possibilities; forms and letters cease to be the only point of concern.
Conceptual and stylistic elements of both artists will make up the final work – the end result will always remain open.
