DE// Nach 15 Jahren der Dokumentation, Recherche und Produktion im Internet hier auf ILOVEGRAFFITI.DE haben wir uns entschieden, erstmals ein Format zu drucken und zu den Wurzeln zurückzukehren: dem BLACKBOOK des Graffiti Writers.
In der Pre-Internet-Ära der analogen Fotografie hatte das Blackbook einen hohen Status. Darin befanden sich oft die besten Entwürfe, Skizzen, Pieces und Tags – ein privates Portfolio. Mit der digitalen Fotografie und weiterführend mit dem Übergang zu sozialen Medien wurde ein echtes Blackbook immer weniger relevant. Dies ist einer der Gründe warum wir das etablierte Format als Gegenstück zum scheinbar unendlichen Graffiti-Overkill im Internet zurückzubringen wollen.
Für das erste BLACKBOOK legen wir den Schwerpunkt auf den Graffiti Writer CRYE aus Berlin (5MINUTES). Obwohl er seit den frühen 2000er Jahren aktiv ist, hat er nie viel Wert darauf gelegt, Fotos in Publikationen oder online zu verbreiten. Das ermöglichte uns, ein 128-seitiges Hardcover Buch mit über 350 exklusiven Fotos zu füllen und zusammenzustellen. Neben einem großen Interview mit ihm wurden Freunde und Mentoren wie SKUME, AZUR, JEPSY, BAS2, BLUE, FOTO SVEN, KALASH oder QUER eingeladen, ihre Gedanken über CRYE und Stylewriting zu teilen.

Wir werden das BLACKBOOK Format in Zukunft zu einer Serie zusammenführen und viele weitere Bände veröffentlichen.
BLACKBOOK 01 – CRYE ONE
EN// After 15 years of documentation, research, producing and promoting the graffiti subculture online, we decided to go straight back to the roots: A writer’s blackbook.
In the pre-internet era of analog photography the blackbook had an unique status. It often featured the writer’s best works, drafts, sketches from friends or tags from heroes – a private portfolio. With digital photography and even more with the transition of graffiti to social media a real book to collect and curate your work became less and less important. One reason why we decided to bring back this well established format as a counterpart to the seemingly infinite overkill of graffiti on the internet.
The first BLACKBOOK volume features the Berlin based writer CRYE. While being active since the early 2000s and still is today – he never paid much attention to spread photos of his work in publications of even online. This fact allowed to put together a 128-paged hardcover with over 300 exclusive photos from his writing career. Especially since subways from CRYE popped up regularly in traffic in recent years, he is best known for high quality burners in the New York style tradition. Besides a big interview with him, companions and personal heroes like SKUME, AZUR, JEPSY, BAS2, BLUE, FOTO SVEN, KALASH or QUER have been invited to share their thoughts about CRYE and Stylewriting.
